Senator J.B. Jennings: A Trusted and Dependable Leader for Maryland

Senator J.B. Jennings grew up in Baltimore County, where he attended Baltimore County Public Schools. From an early age, he demonstrated his dependability and commitment to service by becoming a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Company (Station 47) at just 16 years old. After graduating from Dulaney High School, J.B. pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of Baltimore, further solidifying his strong work ethic and dedication to personal growth.

J.B. began his political career with Congressman Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., serving as an intern and caseworker. His ability to address constituent concerns with care and persistence earned him a promotion to staff assistant. This early experience established his reputation as a trustworthy advocate for the needs of others. J.B. remained true to his roots, and left politics briefly, pursuing his passion for agriculture and co-owning The Mill of Hereford, a local farm feed and supply store that continues to serve Maryland farmers.

In 2002, J.B. answered the call to serve his community on a larger scale by running for the Maryland House of Delegates in the 7th Legislative District. He campaigned on a platform of restoring discipline, fiscal responsibility, and integrity in Annapolis—values he continues to embody today. His sincerity and reliability resonated with voters, leading to his election. In 2011, J.B. brought his dedication and leadership to the Maryland Senate, where he has served with distinction ever since.

As a member of the Senate, J.B. has served on the influential Budget and Taxation Committee, where he works to ensure responsible fiscal stewardship and accountability for Maryland taxpayers. His deep understanding of financial issues and commitment to transparency have made him a trusted voice on the state’s most critical financial decisions. From 2014 to 2020, J.B. served as Senate Minority Leader, where he earned widespread respect for his fair-minded leadership and ability to build consensus across party lines.

In 2008, J.B. expanded his service to the nation by enlisting in the Maryland Air National Guard. He previously served as a loadmaster aboard the Air Force’s C-27 Joint-Cargo Aircraft, and currently serves in the cyber security unit, exemplifying his unwavering dependability and commitment to his country.

Through his service in the Senate, the Maryland Air National Guard, and his local business, J.B. Jennings has earned a reputation as a dependable, principled, and trustworthy leader.   

Beyond his legislative and military duties, J.B. is a trusted leader in the private sector. He is the President and CEO of a cyber-intelligence company and a customer service manager for a government cyber-security contractor, further demonstrating his ability to manage complex challenges with integrity and skill.

At home in Joppa, Maryland, J.B. and his wife Michelle raise their two children, J.W. (b. 2013) and Kate (b. 2015), on their family farm. Together, they uphold values of hard work, honesty, and community service. Michelle manages the farm, boarding horses and caring for various animals, while J.B. continues his commitment to Maryland families and communities.
